BUCHAREST - Romania is famous for the story of Dracula,
believed to have a castle in Transylvania Romania. Romanian government then
uses the mythical tale to attract tourists, but it was not approved by the
local community.
Romanian Federation of Tourism and Service this week
announced it will conduct a campaign to attract tourists to 'sell' the story of
a mythical creature, Dracula. The federation called Transylvania as the most
promising destination in Romania.
Dracula and Transylvania popularity originated from a story
in Bram Stroker novel, Dracula, worldwide. This novel has been filmed and
became the basis of modern vampire fiction.
Although this novel into the early popularity of
Transylvania in the eyes of tourists, even locals are not happy. Government's
efforts to exploit the vampire legend never got along with people.
Exactly 10 years ago, the Government of Romania plans to
make a vampire-themed playground near Bucharest, capital of Romania. However,
these efforts failed because can not find investors to finance it. Even this
playground plan then moved to Transylvania, but nevertheless not been built.
In the story of the novel Dracula was inspired by Vlad the
Impaler, Prince of Romania centuries ago. This makes the government exploiting
people disagree as Vlad Dracula story has been that they are regarded as heroes
fighting for freedom, not a blood-sucking creature.
However, Romania's Tourism Federation believes public
opinion will change. "People will understand that the legend of Dracula
will be a vehicle to promote and advance the tourism economy," said Dan
Matei Agathon, President of the Federation of Tourism Romania, as quoted by
IBTimes, Friday (07/19/2013).
